SPACETRC / OBSERVATION PLANNING
A measurable plan
for your night.
Choose a location, date and geometric constraints. Inspect target altitude, dark intervals and a simple Moon-separation criterion together.
01 / LOCATION · TIME · CONSTRAINTS
Define your night.
The calculation engine loads from this site only when you press Calculate.
02 / CALCULATED GEOMETRY
Which interval meets your constraints?
| Target | Local intervals meeting constraints | Maximum geometric altitude | Minimum Moon separation while eligible |
|---|
Intervals use ten-minute samples, so boundary times are approximate at that resolution. The Moon-separation constraint is not applied when the Moon is below the horizon. Results do not include cloud, light pollution, wind, seeing or real exposure-time calculations.

The saved plan contains your selected location. Downloading JSON and contributing to the observation network are separate actions; this tool does not submit automatically.
Sources and calculation method
Catalogue coordinates are recorded at J2000. Fixed target directions are transformed for precession and nutation at the planning date. Stellar proper motion, stellar parallax, terrain, buildings, atmospheric refraction and weather are not applied. Sun/Moon positions are observer-relative calculations; this is not an observation, weather or telescope-control service.
