Why does epoch matter
when looking for the same star?
Using20 published Gaia DR3 records and their actual 2MASS candidate associations,we recalculated comparisons with and without epoch propagation.
Scope of this result
This selection uses prepublished Gaia–2MASS neighbour candidates. It is a small quality-filtered high-proper-motion sample, so the result is not a global matching-accuracy or independent completeness benchmark. One source has no candidate; no missing record was fabricated.
A uniform rectilinear barycentric model is used. Reported radial velocity and 5-parameter covariance are retained; missing RV assumptions and unquantified uncertainty are explicit. Annual observer parallax, binary orbit, light-time and Galactic forces are outside this model.
Status: actual repeat calculation on archived data. Not a new discovery or completed independent specialist review.
NEXT / CONTINUE WITH REAL PARTICIPATION
An open method for a first joint study.
Research question: independently repeat the effect of epoch propagation on candidate matching in another sample. Once actual lead, participants, data-use scope and separate reviewer are identified, a protocol can be created in the existing private programme workspace. This page does not create people, teams, partnerships or review records.
