SPACETRC / INNOVATION & PARTNERSHIP
A useful project starts
with a well-defined need.
Turn your institution’s question into a researchable scope. Bring data access, intended outcomes, technical uncertainty and acceptance criteria into the same challenge brief.
Four questions for a challenge brief.
User and decision
Who experiences the problem? Which decision or workflow would the output change?
Data and permission
Is the input data actually accessible? Are its source, date and reuse terms known?
Novelty and uncertainty
What technical question goes beyond a standard implementation? Which assumption will be tested?
Acceptance and limits
How will the baseline, evaluation method and deliverables be assessed?
Start with a public-safe summary of the problem. Confidential data and commercial details are discussed outside the initial form, after appropriate access and sharing terms are agreed.

The list loads when you choose. Only records meeting current publication/review conditions and explicit public-sharing choices appear. The proposal drafts on this page are not automatically added to this list.

PILOT RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Open Earth Validation Laboratory
A bounded civilian research proposal to examine satellite-derived land-cover labels through provenance, sampling and independent references. An open benchmark is kept separate from actual field research.
An actual pilot needs a responsible investigator, access to data and references, a contribution protocol and independent reviewers. Geography, sample size, schedule and acceptance thresholds are agreed in the protocol; no completed field result or institutional partnership is announced here.

Break a large ambition into assessable steps.
- 01
Need and scope
Which decision or user need are we addressing?
- 02
Method and resources
Are the data, responsibilities, work packages and permissions clear?
- 03
Bounded pilot
Record the baseline and evaluation method before the work.
- 04
Review and decision
Assess the result, its limitations and the evidence for a next step.
