SPACETRC / TEACHING REPORTS

Two completed examples with open sources and calculations

These are SpaceTRC educational examples prepared from source observations. They are not presented as published community research, peer-reviewed papers, new discoveries or editorial approval. They are separate from the real publication catalogue below. Opening or downloading an example loads only its selected CSV, checks its source hash and recomputes the method before preparing the file.

Educational example: interval depth in the Kepler-8 light curve

What is the fractional difference between mean flux in the 120.60–120.95 BKJD baseline and the 121.08–121.17 BKJD transit interval of the quality-filtered Q0 selection? A dip is expected in this known system; this is not a new discovery or a physical planet model.

Calculated finding

Arithmetic means of 17 baseline and 4 transit points give fractional depth 0.00872729685625416 with standard error 0.00009944415266065158 from independent source errors. As percentages, the dip is about 0.87273% with standard error 0.00994 percentage points.

Full method, limitations and next investigation

Method

B and E are arithmetic means. For each interval, s = √Σσᵢ² / n, depth d = (B−E)/B; s_d = √[(E s_B/B²)² + (s_E/B)²]. Time is BKJD/TDB, not a UTC clock. Interval endpoints are included.

Limitations

Only independent measurement errors are propagated. Stellar activity, correlated noise, trends and instrumental systematics are not modelled. Four transit points are not a physical fit of the full transit; test sensitivity to interval choices. A standard error is not a confidence interval.

Reproduce and change

Create a new revision with transit interval 121.06–121.18 BKJD; compare depth and point count. Also compare the reported-error approach with sample scatter.

SpaceTRC educational example · review status: teaching content

Educational example: comparing dated NOAA Kp intervals

How do mean Kp values differ between hours 0–42 and 72–114 from the start of the retained NOAA selection for 17–23 October 2026? Include records reporting at least one station; this is not a forecast or causal test.

Calculated finding

Each interval contains 15 records. Baseline mean is 1.534, comparison mean is 2.4006666666666665, and the difference is +0.8666666666666667 Kp with independent standard error 0.3317848796271559 Kp. This difference describes only the selected windows.

Full method, limitations and next investigation

Method

For each interval, compute sample standard deviation s and standard error s/√n. Difference Δ = E−B; s_Δ = √(s_B² + s_E²). Time is hours since 17 October 2026 00:00 UTC. Apply the station filter; interval endpoints are included.

  "event": [

    114
  ],
  "errorMode": "scatter",
  "minStations": 1
}

Limitations

Kp is a quasi-logarithmic source index; the arithmetic mean is only a descriptor for this teaching calculation. Consecutive three-hour values may not be independent; effective sample size is not corrected. The selection is not live and the provider may later revise values. No alert, weather forecast or causal claim about solar effects is produced.

Reproduce and change

Keep interval lengths equal and move the windows; compare sensitivity of the mean difference to time selection. Report retained point counts when changing the station filter.

Open a research object

Up to 2 MB. Only defined SpaceTRC research object schema version 1 is accepted. ZIP files, general PDFs and arbitrary code are not executed. Data hash, object hash and recomputed results are checked together. Result and model comparisons allow at most 10⁻¹² absolute or relative numerical tolerance for floating-point rounding across browsers.

Carry your investigation into the Academy portfolio

This explicit action updates only the matching transit, Kp or geometry draft on this device. Lesson progress and other projects are preserved; corrupt or unknown existing portfolios are never overwritten. Nothing is sent to an editor or account.

Submit for real review through your own WordPress project

First create a report in your account through My First Research / My Research. Here you can select only your own unpublished report with the same data type. The button submits the entire open research object as an attachment and returns the report to the review queue; it does not publish it.

No package has been uploaded.

Only the Kepler, Kp and labelled shadow-model schema is supported. The server checks source hash, account ownership, version, sharing consent and recomputed results. Author name and ORCID are self-supplied. An editor must separately review source and method. No external cloud archive or DOI registration is created.

Published research objects

This catalogue shows only WordPress attachments with explicit sharing consent, real editorial publication and unchanged approved content. Entries are not sample or fabricated publications. Opening an object downloads its data and verifies the calculation in this browser.

Catalogue not requested yet. The latest 200 published projects are scanned; each page contains up to 20 verified objects.

SCIENTIFIC TRACEABILITY

What should a research object answer?

01

Where did the data come from?

The Kepler sample comes from KIC 6922244 / Q0. Quality filtering and median scaling were applied before this exercise; original FITS and processing notes are retained. NOAA is a retained product from 17–23 October 2026. Distinguish this immutable selection from a changing online source.

02

What was calculated?

The package records interval bounds, station filter, uncertainty mode and numeric formulas. The result is recomputed from the same data copy and parameters. Shadow inputs are clearly labelled educational-model values, not measured historical records.

03

What changed?

Compare title, question, parameters, source data and results between two files. A revision number and the previous object hash record the link; a hash chain is not an independent timestamp or author signature.

04

Who reviewed it?

This local tool creates no editorial or peer-review approval. Use My First Research / My Research in your WordPress account to submit work. Public publication requires sharing consent and a real editorial action.

A path to an open archive

Archive metadata export carries a title, description, data/method relationships, author and licence notes. This page does not upload files to an external archive or reserve a DOI. Zenodo publication is performed separately with a real account and the archive’s access choices. A DOI or archive record does not imply peer review.
