SPACETRC / MY SKY

The same stars.
A different point of view.

Choose a location and UTC time. Compare approximate horizon positions of bright stars and record your own observations. This workspace is not a live camera or weather service.

From your location to the sky

Enable JavaScript to calculate positions. The catalogue remains readable below.

Centre: zenith (90°). Outer circle: horizon (0°). North is up and east is right: a compass diagram rather than an overhead sky-chart orientation.

YOUR EVIDENCE / ON YOUR DEVICE

Your observation notebook

Keep a prediction separate from an observation. Write what you actually saw, cloud cover, light pollution and the instrument you used. Entries stay in this browser; export them to keep a backup.

Maximum 20 entries. Import replaces the current notebook. Delete all asks for a second click. There is no cloud account or cross-device sync.

How do we read a position?

    Altitude and direction

Altitude is measured from the horizon; negative means below it. Azimuth increases eastwards from true north: east is 90°, south is 180°. Above the horizon does not mean visible. Daylight, buildings, clouds, the Moon and atmosphere can change what you see.

    Limits of the approximation

For 2000–2050, UTC approximates mean sidereal time. HYG v4.1 J2000 coordinates are not corrected for precession, proper motion, nutation or refraction; altitudes are rounded to whole degrees. Avoid precision pointing, especially near the horizon. The Sun, Moon, planets and satellite passes are not plotted.
